Mustafizur Rahman ended his 4 overs without a wicket today, but his penultimate last over at the 19th of the innings turned out to be a crucial game-deciding one in the end. Sunrisers Hyderabad won a thriller of a match by 4 runs against Rising Pune Supergiants.
Winning the toss, SunRisers opted to bat first, but lost their captain early in the innings. Dhawan and Williamson looked to take control at some stage, but could not open up the shackles as they have expected. Pune bowlers bowled well to keep the score to 137-8 in the end. Dhawan top scored for his side with 33, while Williamson made a patient 32.
Yuvraj made some vital contributions in the middle and Hooda in the end added quick runs. Dhawan, Yuvraj and Hooda hit 2 sixes each in the process. But full credit to the Pune bowlers, especially Zampa, who bagged 6 wickets to bowl his T20 career best figures, and the best for an Australian leg spinner in this format. Zampa’s bowling figures after the innings showed such, 4-0-19-6! Ashwin also delivered excellently, ending with figures of 4-0-16-1.
The chase started off with a wicket off the third ball of the innings from Bhuvaneshwar. Khawaja was run out in trying to sneak a double and then there was a 51-run stand between Bailey and Ashwin. Ashwin at number 4 was the result of a tactical move by Dhoni, which paid off pretty well at that moment. Warner, today as well, held back Mustafizur in the powerplay overs and introduced him in the 10th over of the innings.
Mustafizur stayed wicketless at the end of the match, but his economic spell of bowling continued today too. He was a hint on the ‘expensive’ (!) side today, with match-end bowling figures of 4-0-26-0. But he was asked to bowl the penultimate 19th over, where he finished without being hit for a boundary, giving away 8 runs only. He was trusted upon by his skipper-Warner, and he paid him back with a proper response.
Nehra bowled the last over and picked up Perera third ball, but was hit for a six in the fourth, which brought the game close to Pune’s winning zone. But a dramatic run out on the fifth, by a Sran-Yuvraj combination turned the most part the match towards SunRisers again. Dhoni looked to sneak a double, top-edging the delivery from Nehra. He was denied, when Sran threw it to Yuvraj at the striker’s end and the experienced mind of Yuvraj initiated the run out in sublime fashion.
Zampa came in to face the last ball, and was out caught behind, and SunRisers ended up winning. Despite not being able to win it for his side, Adam Zampa was adjudged the Player of the Match for his astounding bowling figures of 6-19 in 4 overs.
